Sam Manning, at home in the studio or on the water in Camden Harbor.
The summer of 1955 was an odd one Down East, for that season Sam trekked up the coast of Maine, through the Bay of Fundy, around Prince Edward Island and Cape Breton Isles in a wooden dory. It was a glimpse of Sam’s future, for his love of wooden boats and the ocean has manifested itself in his gift for creating precise nautical illustrations. “You have to love a guy who rows out of Camden, Maine, nearly every day of the year—yes, that includes winter. Illustrator, craftsman, oarsman, and author, Sam Manning brings the maritime world to life with pencil, oar, and a steady hand. He's world-renowned for his meticulous maritime illustrations, yet there is heart in even the most technical of his drawings.” — Maine Boats, Homes & Harbors
